Sarita Reynolds

As an abstract contemporary painter, my focus is centered on using color and texture to create surfaces that imply a history, a former life. My work aims to create a visual space that invites the viewer to explore an abstracted atmosphere filled with suggested forms and imagery. It's a body of work conveying an energetic, obscured, and diffused perspective.

My process involves breaking down several layers of color to suggest the surface once had another purpose, another life. This process involves the use of unconventional materials, from bleach to vinegar to black tea. By building up the canvas, followed by breaking the paint down and deconstructing the layered paint and plaster, images become tactile, rough, and distressed.

My work makes viewers ask "What is this?" followed by "What was this?" I am interested in playing with the idea of found objects and both the history and legacy their surfaces suggest.
